Version 1.2.0.2 released


Since the last update to Speed Metal Vimana I played through Disco Elysium. Simply put, I was blown away. Using words I can only fail to convey how moving the experience was. It's a masterpiece, it's changed how I look at narrative in video games. It's changed my perception on the ways players can interact with a virtual representation of a world. It's changed me and I'm a better man for it. Was it the brutal look into the generational consequences of a failed communist revolution? Was it the tragic story of broken men facing down the weight of all the pain in their lives? Was it the elegant way in which the beauty and anguish of human memory was portrayed? Was it the way the skill system dramatically changes how every player will experience the game's story and world? Was it the serene yet haunting atmosphere, enhanced by the tragic horns that composed the music? No. No, fuck no. It was the text box for the dialogue. It was so buttery smooth. I felt immediate and unyielding shame for how basic mine was. Let's be honest here, just between the both of us. I'm not writing the next Disco Elysium but I can at least fix a fucking text box's scrolling.

In short, Disco Elysium: 10/10. If you're reading this and you haven't played it, go do that. You can thank me later. Shame about the original creators getting swindled or whatever. You should throw some fat stacks of cash at me so I never end up in the same position. Wouldn't want any Saudi princes to take advantage of me in a moment of desperation, would we? Not that I'd refuse, I mean, c'mon. ...Please call, MBS. The sucking chest wound that is my soul cannot be filled with your money, nothing in this universe will do the trick, but hot damn let's try anyways and see what happens!

Game

- New interactive spots have been added to some rooms.

Interface

- On exit from in-game to the main menu, the quit prompt has an option to quit directly to the desktop.

- Notification messages with input mentioned will change depending on the last input device used.

- Save game slots record the player's current location and episode number.

- The Options -> Controls menu has a section for gamepads. 

- The Options -> Controls -> Keyboard screen now documents behaviour of Control (CTRL) keys in cutscenes.

- "Text Scroll Speed" has been added to Options -> Game. This controls how quickly text will scroll vertically.

-  "Audio when minimized" has been added to Options -> Audio -> General. This toggles if sound will keep playing when the window is minimized.

Audio

- Sound effects have been added, adjusted, and improved on the interface

Controls

- The Control (CTRL) keys can now be held down to skip cutscenes.

- The 'Z' key will now change between look/interact in interactive rooms.

- The mouse wheel will now toggle between look/interact in interactive rooms.

- Gamepads are now fully supported.


Changed

General

- Updated the engine to Ren'Py 8.0.3.

Script

- Several parts of the script have had minor tweaks and/or minor elaborations of detail.

Visuals

- Character portraits now have a tasteful backdrop effect.

- Character portrait speaking/silent transition effects improved.

- Animation and effects for cutscenes scenes have been redone.

- The head of the Vimana Painkiller has been redesigned.

Interface

- Vertical text scrolling is now smoother and uses fewer screen wipes.

- Up to 25 save slots are now available.

- "Click to start" behaviour on the opening screen is now active on the entire screen instead of just on the text.

- Tweaks to item icon visuals when the item triggers a scene change.

- Horizontal bar handles in the Options menu highlight when hovered.

- Config Menu is now modal, interaction is blocked while it's open.

- Improved transition effects when opening menus.

- Save/Load screen has been redone.

- History screen has been redone.

- Achievements screen has been redone.

- Notification message font has been changed.


Fixed

Script

- One single humiliating typo.

Controls

- The Escape key (ESC) will now return from any menu.

- Right mouse click will now return from any menu.

- When using the keyboard or gamepad to navigate between objects in interactive rooms, the object tooltip will appear on the item instead of at the mouse cursor's last location.
